May I present, my first brooch… Cherry Blossom
Well, yesterday’s project of an Aquamarine Tree of Life didn’t quite fully manifest. While looking thru all my stones and trying to organize my new goodies I got a bit side tracked. During my to and fro and spastic episodes of *gasp* Ooooo and Ahhhhh I managed to made a new kind of tree instead. And a necklace. I made a necklace too.
The first one I’ve been thinking about for quite a while now. It’s a Lapis Lazuli cabochon I wrapped in a sterling silver Tree of Life. 🙂
It’s my first sterling cabochon wrap. Man oh man was that a chore. It took most of the afternoon and well into the wee hours of the night but I finally did it.
Mah Lapis Tree…
Mah newest set of earrings. I finally got my silver order in last week and was just itching to try to make a silver version of the Copper Knots. I have a bracelet in mind to go with them, here’s hoping that turns out like I hope, I’ve never made a bracelet before. First time for everything I suppose.
I’m also working on a Tree of Life pendant, hoping to have that done in the next day or two so I can ship that baby out. It’s kind of just a tangled mess at the moment. Wrestling 10′ of fine wire is a bit of a challenge.
That’s all for me, for now. Back to twisting my tree. 🙂
I am sooooooo vera excited about my new earrings! Vera vera VERA.
Yesterday, I went back to the bead store in search of a clasp. The ones I got the day before didn’t work for the necklace I needed to make, bummer that. Went in for such a small item, came out with… bag-o-goodies.
These, I pretty much squealed about. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on… Emeralds.
I’ve been eyeballing the strands of raw emeralds for a long while now. $300.00 strands of stones however are just not in the budge, no matter how much I want them. On my way out of the store I decided to take a look-see thru the individual bead drawers and low and behold… they had 3 raw emeralds, just waiting for me to snatch them up!
I’ve been trying to figure out what to hang off of my sterling silver earrings I’d made. I’ve tried a number of things; nothing was really floating my boat. When I got home with my new treasures, I had my “that’s it!” moment.
My new sterling and emerald earrings…
I tried several different things with them, tried to get all fancy with the wire; they are emeralds after all. But in the end decided… fancy just got in their way. The stones don’t need embellished, they speak for themselves. Several colors of green, ranging from so dark it looks black, to a pretty light green, and everything inbetween.
I love them.
To the Etsy shop they go. Once I stop drooling over them.
Adventures in jewelry. Lovin’ every minute of it!
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great night of celebration. I stayed in and tried my hand at new jewelry things. Twas fun.
Since my Sterling order hasn’t shown up yet, I played with the copper today. Spent the day trying to get the hang of that hammering thing I was having trouble with earlier, played with different loops and swirls. After quite a bit of trial and error, out popped these earrings. 🙂
I made a couple of pair, I’m think I’m liking them. I also tried my hand at more Garnet pendants. More practicing for when the silver gets here, I have something almost gelled in my head but I just can’t quite get it to come out. I’m not really all that thrilled with this one, but figured I’d share anyhow.
Today I want to make a bracelet I think. I made so many different kinds of copper links and swirls and whoopdy-doos I’m thinking maybe I can string them together and make something with them. Some kind of “Hodgepodge Bracelet” or something. No idea what that means exactly… not quite gelled yet. We’ll see what comes out after playing with it a bit.
I’m off for more adventures in jewelry.
My first post on my new site. New site YAY! Ready, set, go!
Ok. So I’ve gotten rather comfortable with all my practice wire, just twisting and wrapping like a fiend over here. The problem being, it’s not very good wire so although it’s been great fun, they aren’t really anything I would sell. So my little Etsy shop remains empty.
I ran out last week and splurged on some sterling silver. I’m afraid of it. I still muck things up pretty good, lots of trial and error, many grrrrrr do ovesr and that sort of thing. Last night, I thought I’d be brave. I have a bracelet I really want to make, all figure 8’s and green stones, but I thought I’d start simpler. Maybe some earrings. I grabbed the sterling, the pliers, and went to town.
Silver is kinda hard. I thought it would be the same as the other wire I’ve been using. Nope. Not.
I was doing alright, except the bracelet I want to make needs hammering. I want flat figure 8’s. I’ve read about hammering, but I’ve not tried it. Figured I’d give it a go on my niffty earrings.
I practiced first on some other wire, started whacking away. It was fun, and came out cool. I figured it was time to take the hammer to the silver. Did I mention silver is kinda hard?
I layed my earrings out, grabbed that hammer and gave her a good whack. Whack whack whack.
The first one came out pretty good. I was pleased. Grabbed the second one… whack whack whack. Whack whack… break. Oops. Turns out you can whack to much, or to hard or… I dunno, but you can whack it right in half. Silver went flying across the room… and hit the cat. He didn’t like that. Neither did I. That stuff is expensive.
I may not be ready for whacking silver yet.
Anyhoo, I started again, made a new one, whacked a tad gentler and out came these…
I’m rather pleased with them. So far.
Considering the whack breakage thing, I figure I’ll keep these ones, make sure they really worked and aren’t just waiting to fall apart due to over aggressive whacking. Gonna wear them today. If all goes well, maybe I’ll make more.
