I was asked by a friend of mine to make something to reflect a ride in a hot air balloon. Something that speaks of the feeling of floating above the earth. Something light and airy and bright and adventurous.
I just finished another cab tree. Tomorrow it goes to travel to it’s new home. It’s going to like it there. 🙂
I love this stone. It seems each time I go to the bead store and dig thru the cabochon drawer I end up bringing more home. With it’s different colors of green in it, it’s perfect for a Tree. I’ve even picked up some smaller ones to try some Tree of Life earrings some day. Those might be cool.
Briolettes is something I’ve been struggling with since day one. Top drilled stones that no matter how hard I try I just can’t get them to come out like I want. Last week I bought some of the most beautiful faceted beads; Green Amethyst, Ametrine, and some smokey blue Chinese crystals… all top drilled.
Time to get the wrapping right.
I practiced for days on the crystals. I tried a tight, neat wrap and I tried a messy wrap. The neat wrap I can do, I just don’t much care for it. The messy wrap… that’s the one I like. It looks so easy. It’s so… not.
Practice, practice, practice… until finally…
May I present… my Smokey Blue, Messy Wrapped, Chinese Crystal Briolette…
I did it! In silver even. 😀
Since I had so many from trying over and over I decided to try my hand at antiquing the silver. I’ve only done copper so far, I don’t like experimenting on the sterling. Gets expensive when it goes wrong. But, while holding my breath I went for it.
Success! I think I may even like it better than the shiny for this one. I even did the chain. 😀
Of course, once I figured out I could oxidize chain I got a little carried away and did LOTS of chain. I kinda forgot to leave some copper chain shiny. Oops. Copper chain that’s been antiqued looks cool thou.
Not sure I’m confident enough to try all of this on the Green Amethyst or the Ametrine yet, those are so expensive I’m nervous about harming their beautimus selves. But who knows. Maybe I’ll get brave and do one today. Never can tell.
Well, yesterday’s project of an Aquamarine Tree of Life didn’t quite fully manifest. While looking thru all my stones and trying to organize my new goodies I got a bit side tracked. During my to and fro and spastic episodes of *gasp* Ooooo and Ahhhhh I managed to made a new kind of tree instead. And a necklace. I made a necklace too.
The first one I’ve been thinking about for quite a while now. It’s a Lapis Lazuli cabochon I wrapped in a sterling silver Tree of Life. 🙂
It’s my first sterling cabochon wrap. Man oh man was that a chore. It took most of the afternoon and well into the wee hours of the night but I finally did it.
I just finished making my Writer’s Tree of Life into a Sterling Silver pendant size tree. Using the new tree design and multi-colored Tourmaline stones, it’s similar to the suncatcher one I made. Just… smaller….sterling… and more colorful. 🙂
I have won the battle against the silver! I did it, I did it!!! W0000000T!
I am now proudly gazing upon my first sterling silver Tree of Life Pendant.
I’m rather proud of that bad boy. *pats self on the back*
That baby was definitely a challenge. Learned a lot along the way, confirmed a lot of what I needed to know as far as wire gauges and silver quantities and… on and on. I’m finally ready. I can now sell silver trees.
More with the W00T!!!!!
Next stop my Etsy shop to put that jewel up for sale, make a sale page here too, then next week see if I can get the lady at the local shop to sling for me. I’m way excited. Way!
I’ve been over here busy as a little bee again. Or maybe “still” is more accurate.
I’ve been working away on my first sterling silver Tree of Life pendant, which is finally coming together. I’m amazed at how different sterling wire is to work up. Not nearly as malable as the copper based artistic wire I’ve made the other trees with. The more you work silver, the harder it gets. Strange that.
But it’s coming together nicely. I hope to be done with it tonight, tomorrow at the latest.
Last night I took a break from piecing the amethyst together for the tree, made up some simple little earrings to throw in the shop. Broke out some Czech glass beads and made my first pearl earrings too. I’m rather pleased with those.
I’m rather pleased with my pearls. 🙂
Now to price them and list them in the shop. I’m trying so vera hard to get as many things made up and listed as I can. Valentine’s Day is coming after all. Tis the season for jewelry. I hope.
Then back to mah tree. It’s going to rock. I just know it. 🙂
