Wow, I’ve been awfully quiet over here. Seems I’ve not made any posts for over a week now. You’d think I wasn’t making anything. But… that’s totally not it. Actually, I’ve been making lots and lots of things.
I’m pretty excited about it all actually. I’ve mentioned (I think) that I was commissioned by an author to make some promo pieces for some upcoming book releases. A book bling project. W00T! 5 whole pieces. And yaaaaay, It’s finally finished. Booooy howdy, I had a blast doing this one. I took a theme and/or element from each of the books and made a pendant for each. What I ended up with was…
I’d heard that there was a ‘Super Moon’ the other night. I was all kinds of anxious to go out and photograph that bad boy. Unfortunately… that didn’t pan out. So, I made one.
I’ve actually been wanting to make one for a long while now, but couldn’t find the right stones. A few weeks ago I finally found some, so thought I’d give it a whirl.
My new cabochon tree, Under the Crystal Moon…
Perhaps I should have left well enough alone, but…I just couldn’t. It didn’t have any contrast with the sterling silver wire and the crystal stone. It lacked the night time feel I was after. Sooooo, I oxidized it and ended up with…
At first I wasn’t sure if I liked it. But…the more I look at it, the more I’m glad I did it. It’s more of what I was going for. Has more character now. Shows off the stone better too.
The fairy frost and the rainbow inclusions show better now, although try as I might, I can’t get pics of the rainbows darn it. Stone is pretty, reminds me of clouds passing in front of a full moon…
And the oxidization did some odd things I didn’t expect. It’s not just black in the low parts. There are dark blue “shadows” in it.
I like my new tree. I’ve got some other round cabochons to try it with; a burgandy one for a Blood Moon, some black ones, some shimmery black labrodite and some multi-colored jaspers, all of which I think will make wonderful Full Moon Tree pendants.
For various reasons, the jewel-er-ies have slowed down a bit this week, it’s been more of a buying week than a making week. I have all kinds of new shiny to play with; Faceted Green Amethyst, Faceted Ametrine, several very interesting pieces of Boulder Opal… and more. My shiny rock addiction kind of got the better of me this week.
I am so in love with it. It reminds me of the blue ice of the Alaskan glaciers I saw while up there on a trip with my father a few years back. They were so beautiful.
Now to throw that jewel into the tumbler to make it sparkle and write up it’s listing for the shop. After that, it’s time to finish up a new cabochon tree I’ve been commissioned to make. It’s coming out wonderfully so far. I’m excited about that too.
I’ve been trying really hard to complete some new jewelry projects this week. I think I have about 5 things going at once. Not sure if that’s good or bad lol.
I’m trying to redesign my Tree of Life pendants, learn new chainmail patterns and make some new necklaces.
I think I finally have a good handle on the new redesigned tree. I’m about 1/2 way done with one I’m so far very pleased with. I may even like it better than the first ones. It’s definitely less of a wire nightmare, the tangled mess the tree became with all the fine wire I was using was almost unmanageable. Each tree was days worth of a wrestling match I didn’t always win. Too much pulling my hair out, and too much wire wasting. More than a few entire trees went into the scrap pile.
Think I have put a whuppin’ on that finally. Won’t know for sure until I finish it, but it’s going well so far. Yay for that.
I managed to complete a couple of things in the meantime, get pics and list them and all that good stuff. Learned a new chainmail pattern and finished my bracelet late last night. It’s a mighty piece of mail 🙂 Bigger than my first piece.
I also finished my fossil necklace finally.
I’m pleased with them. Vera. It tripped me out this morning when I was reading up on Ammonites and it clicked how old they were. Yes, fossils = old, but reading that they lived with the dinosaurs and went extinct 65 million years ago seriously tripped my trigger. I think that’s cool.
I made a dinosaur necklace. 😀 😀
I’ve not made pages here for those yet. One of the things I have to get on doing is renaming myself. I got a nice threatening ‘cease and desist’ letter the other night from some corporate lawyer. So for now I just listed them in the Etsy shop.
Mother/daughter team of living room jewelry makers iz scary. 😉
That’s all for now. Back to tree making for me. I really want to finish that baby today.
And those are just the finished pieces. I’ve also got a Writer’s Tree in the works, a matching earring/pendant set I’m trying to decide on which stone to use, and a brand new kind of Tree of Life pendant.
I’m pretty excited about how the new Tree is working out. This one sits on top of a stone instead of inside of a ring. Rather challenging, but… so far so good. It’s gonna ROCK!
Lots and lots of new goodies. I think I finally have enough stuff to have my Valentine’s day sale. Now I just have to figure out how to do one. As always, just figuring it all out as I go. 🙂
