Wow, I’ve been awfully quiet over here. Seems I’ve not made any posts for over a week now. You’d think I wasn’t making anything. But… that’s totally not it. Actually, I’ve been making lots and lots of things.
I’m pretty excited about it all actually. I’ve mentioned (I think) that I was commissioned by an author to make some promo pieces for some upcoming book releases. A book bling project. W00T! 5 whole pieces. And yaaaaay, It’s finally finished. Booooy howdy, I had a blast doing this one. I took a theme and/or element from each of the books and made a pendant for each. What I ended up with was…
I’d heard that there was a ‘Super Moon’ the other night. I was all kinds of anxious to go out and photograph that bad boy. Unfortunately… that didn’t pan out. So, I made one.
I’ve actually been wanting to make one for a long while now, but couldn’t find the right stones. A few weeks ago I finally found some, so thought I’d give it a whirl.
My new cabochon tree, Under the Crystal Moon…
Perhaps I should have left well enough alone, but…I just couldn’t. It didn’t have any contrast with the sterling silver wire and the crystal stone. It lacked the night time feel I was after. Sooooo, I oxidized it and ended up with…
At first I wasn’t sure if I liked it. But…the more I look at it, the more I’m glad I did it. It’s more of what I was going for. Has more character now. Shows off the stone better too.
The fairy frost and the rainbow inclusions show better now, although try as I might, I can’t get pics of the rainbows darn it. Stone is pretty, reminds me of clouds passing in front of a full moon…
And the oxidization did some odd things I didn’t expect. It’s not just black in the low parts. There are dark blue “shadows” in it.
I like my new tree. I’ve got some other round cabochons to try it with; a burgandy one for a Blood Moon, some black ones, some shimmery black labrodite and some multi-colored jaspers, all of which I think will make wonderful Full Moon Tree pendants.
I decided to hide away for the night and make shiny. Or… try at least. Some went well, some… not so much. Got a few new pieces finished up thou…
Those are the ones I’m pleased with. Played with pearls and one of my new Ametrine briolettes. I’m so in love with those new crystals.
Most of the night was spent remembering how hard that Half Persian 4 in 1 was. Once I got cruisin on that bracelet, it was easy peasy. I’d forgotten that it took 3 days to get it started right.
Now I remember.
I tried to make another chain of that tonight. A friend of my fell in love with the bracelet and almost ran off with it before I got it shipped out. He asked me to turn it into a tie chain for him so…I ordered smaller rings and thought I’d give it a go. Those just came in and he brought me one of his ties so I thought I’d see how that went.
It’s not done yet, but so far…
That’d be it. I’m not sure I’m in love with it. It looked better in my head. I’m not done with it yet, so maybe it’s too early to tell. Dunno. I may need to see if it’s possible to go smaller with it. Not sure it’s doable thou. Maybe a 3 in 1 would work better. I think a 3 in 1 can be made smaller than a 4 in 1.
*shrugs* hard to say.
I figure worse case, I’ll make this one a bracelet. I loved the other one, but it was too wide for my wrists. This one would be perfect for me.
I kinda like that plan. That is my favorite weave so far and, well, I need a bracelet. 😀
Anyhoo, not a bad haul for an evening. I am pleased.
I was asked by a friend of mine to make something to reflect a ride in a hot air balloon. Something that speaks of the feeling of floating above the earth. Something light and airy and bright and adventurous.
I’ve been working on a new copper and Labradorite Tree of Life pendant the last few days. Finally, last night, I finished it. I actually made it as a test/sample piece for a large copper tree I wanted to make. When I say large tree, I mean 12″ diameter rather than the pendant’s 1 1/2″ diameter. Turning the trees into wall art has been something I’ve been thinking on for awhile now.
So I thought I’d test the stones on a copper pendant first. See how they look together as I’ve not made a tree from them yet.
Well, yesterday’s project of an Aquamarine Tree of Life didn’t quite fully manifest. While looking thru all my stones and trying to organize my new goodies I got a bit side tracked. During my to and fro and spastic episodes of *gasp* Ooooo and Ahhhhh I managed to made a new kind of tree instead. And a necklace. I made a necklace too.
The first one I’ve been thinking about for quite a while now. It’s a Lapis Lazuli cabochon I wrapped in a sterling silver Tree of Life. 🙂
It’s my first sterling cabochon wrap. Man oh man was that a chore. It took most of the afternoon and well into the wee hours of the night but I finally did it.
