New Kind of Cabochon Tree: Under the Crystal Moon

I’d heard that there was a ‘Super Moon’ the other night. I was all kinds of anxious to go out and photograph that bad boy. Unfortunately… that didn’t pan out. So, I made one.

I’ve actually been wanting to make one for a long while now, but couldn’t find the right stones. A few weeks ago I finally found some, so thought I’d give it a whirl.

My new cabochon tree, Under the Crystal Moon

Under the Crystal Moon

Perhaps I should have left well enough alone, but…I just couldn’t. It didn’t have any contrast with the sterling silver wire and the crystal stone. It lacked the night time feel I was after. Sooooo, I oxidized it and ended up with…

Under the Crystal Moon- Oxidized

At first I wasn’t sure if I liked it. But…the more I look at it, the more I’m glad I did it. It’s more of what I was going for. Has more character now. Shows off the stone better too.

Under the Crystal Moon – Oxidized

The fairy frost and the rainbow inclusions show better now, although try as I might, I can’t get pics of the rainbows darn it. Stone is pretty, reminds me of clouds passing in front of a full moon…

And the oxidization did some odd things I didn’t expect. It’s not just black in the low parts. There are dark blue “shadows” in it.

I like my new tree. I’ve got some other round cabochons to try it with; a burgandy one for a Blood Moon, some black ones, some shimmery black labrodite and some multi-colored jaspers, all of which I think will make wonderful Full Moon Tree pendants.

Off to play with something else.

New adventures in jewel-er-ies. Nothin’ but fun 😀

Serpentine Cabochon Tree of Life

I just finished another cab tree. Tomorrow it goes to travel to it’s new home. It’s going to like it there. 🙂

Serpentine Cabochon Tree of Life

I love this stone. It seems each time I go to the bead store and dig thru the cabochon drawer I end up bringing more home. With it’s different colors of green in it, it’s perfect for a Tree. I’ve even picked up some smaller ones to try some Tree of Life earrings some day.  Those might be cool.

Off to make something else now.

I wonder what it will be. 😀

Sterling Silver Lapis Cabochon Tree of Life

Well, yesterday’s project of an Aquamarine Tree of Life didn’t quite fully manifest. While looking thru all my stones and trying to organize my new goodies I got a bit side tracked. During my to and fro and spastic episodes of *gasp* Ooooo and Ahhhhh I managed to made a new kind of tree instead. And a necklace. I made a necklace too.

The first one I’ve been thinking about for quite a while now. It’s a Lapis Lazuli cabochon I wrapped in a sterling silver Tree of Life. 🙂

It’s my first sterling cabochon wrap. Man oh man was that a chore. It took most of the afternoon and well into the wee hours of the night but I finally did it.

Mah Lapis Tree…

A whole new kind of Tree of Life…

I am soooooooo excited about the tree I just finished last night. I had very high hopes for it because I have big plans for it. At least I did if it worked out.

And… it did.

What is it? Well… it’s a Tree of Life wrapped cabochon.

Copper Wire Serpentine Cabochon Tree of Life Pendant

My very first wrapped cabochon. I did it! W00T! \o/

I picked up several stones a while back. I keep adding to the ever growing collection of stones even thou I have no clue what to do with them. I have been so busy learning so many other things, the cabochons and other various holeless items had taken a back seat. Now that I’ve made several of the Tree of Life pendants I thought I’d try to set this jewel in motion. LOVE.

The lady at the bead store said this was a ‘New Jade’ aka ‘Serpentine’ stone. I wrapped it in artwire; Antique Copper wire along the outside of the stone and regular copper for the tree.

I’ve had big plans for this all along, keep buying things to put trees on. Mattered not that I didn’t know how. I’ve got several cabochons, Agate slices…various goodies like that. Different sizes, shapes, colors. Gonna make pendants, suncatchers, and, and, and… stuff.

Lots o’ stuff!

So much stuff!!!

Look out stuff, here I come.

😀 😀

Adventures in jewelry. The cabochon version.

Full.of.WIN. 😀
